As per information received from Ward Councillor Pieter Marais, the following roads are closed:
- Huguenot Tunnel and R101/Old Du Toitskloof Pass closed due to a power failure in the tunnel and mudslides, rockfalls in the old Du Toitskloof Pass and also strong winds that could overturn a vehicle easily;
- Franschhoek Pass due to rockfalls and a tree across the roadway that obstructed the roadway;
- Worcester via Nekkies Road via Rawsonville Road closed in both directions due to violent protesting;
- R46 Mitchell’s Pass Ceres will be closed shortly due to mudslides and flooding.
According to Jandre Bakker, spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Public Works, the Huguenot Tunnel is only open to motorists travelling from Cape Town in the direction of Worcester.
To enter Worcester, motorists are advised that an alternative route to drive when coming from the direction of George is the R60 Robertson Road via High Street in Worcester. From there, connect to Riebeeck Road, which will lead to Roux Road towards the N1 to Cape Town.
Take the turn from off after the Old Shell Ultra Garage on the N1 onto the N1 onto the R43 Ceres/Wolseley Road via Wolseley R43, which will take motorists onto the R46 Hermon/Tulbach Road via Nuwekloof Mountain Pass via Wellington R44, via the N1 to Cape Town.
