Cape Town’s taxi services are set to remain suspended as Santaco seeks an urgent interdict against the City of Cape Town. The move comes after a meeting held between Santaco and the national minister of transport on 9 August, where discussions around the ongoing taxi impoundment issue were addressed.
In a notice addressed to all operators in the Western Cape, Ryno Saaiers, the general secretary of Santaco WC, informed taxi operators of the developments.

The statement conveyed that Santaco had engaged the services of lawyers to apply for an interdict to secure the release of all impounded vehicles. Furthermore, the organisation aims to prevent the City of Cape Town and the Department of Mobility from impounding more taxis until a resolution is reached.
During this period, Santaco is urging its members to exercise patience and allow the legal process to unfold. Saaiers emphasised that the application for the interdict would be filed within 48 hours. Until this legal procedure is completed, taxi operations will remain suspended.
