While this work is necessary to enhance service delivery, residents in the affected areas are urged to take note of the disruptions and prepare accordingly.
The National Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) will conduct pumping tests from the Berg River to the Riviersonderend Tunnel, which supplies water to the Faure and Blackheath Water Treatment Plants (WTPs).
This activity will result in reduced water supply to Faure and Blackheath from Monday morning, 15 April, until the evening of Tuesday, 16 April. The City is taking steps to top up reservoirs ahead of this shutdown.
During this period, drinking water production from these treatment plants will be reduced by approximately half, potentially affecting water pressure in some parts of Cape Town.

Residents across Cape Town are kindly requested to reduce their water consumption during this period to ensure a sustainable water supply while the DWS conducts maintenance on its bulk water supply infrastructure.
Specific maintenance areas and disruptions
- Khayelitsha – Dibana Street, Makhaza: New connection work will disrupt water supply from 8:00am to 4:00pm on Tuesday, 16 April. A water tanker will provide domestic water during this period.
- Victorskloof – Hout Bay: Installation of a new water pipeline in Valley Road will result in water supply disruption from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Wednesday, 17 April 2024.
- Pinehurst: Maintenance work in Pinehurst Drive, Skelton Close and Kennersley Road will disrupt water supply from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Tuesday, 16 April.
Residents should note several important considerations during the planned maintenance period. The work has been scheduled to minimise disruption to water supply and construction sites where repairs are underway are off-limits to the public.
After restoration, you may experience temporarily discoloured or milky water due to trapped air in the pipes, which will clear up if left to settle. To prepare, residents are advised to store enough clean, sealed containers of water for use during the maintenance period and keep taps closed to prevent water loss or damage when supply is restored.
