The management of Somerset Mall says that it is business as usual at the shopping centre following a fire that broke out late on Wednesday, December 21. It has now come to light that the blaze was caused when two generators in the back of the mall’s receiving bay caught fire.

Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said they received the emergency call at 10.30pm after motorists on the N2 highway spotted the flames and called for help.
Six firefighting vehicles and twenty-five emergency service personnel were on the scene. The fire was extinguished by 11:45pm, and the building appeared to have sustained no damage.
