A 30-year-old male trial runner died during a training session at Devil’s Peak in Cape Town on Saturday, 22 January.
According to the Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR), emergency services were alerted by another trail runner that a man had collapsed on the path below Devil’s Peak.
The WSAR said in a statement that when emergency services arrived on the scene, someone was already doing CPR, however, the man was later declared dead. It is reported that the man collapsed during a training session, Times Live reported.

The search and rescue service further mentioned that the man’s body was airlifted by helicopter and handed over to the SAPS’s forensics department.
Meanwhile, the Western Cape’s Department of Health EMS/AMS rescue helicopter was also deployed to the Newlands Forest to assist and rescue an injured hiker on Saturday,22 January.
According to reports, the body was found on the contour path in the vicinity of Rhodes Memorial and airlifted from Newlands Forest’s Hiddingh Ravine.
