The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that a light magnitude 3.4 earthquake occurred under the Atlantic Ocean, just 76 kilometres northwest of Cape Town, this afternoon.

According to Volcano Discovery, the earthquake occurred at 3:14pm when it hit a very shallow depth of 10 kilometres beneath the epicentre near Cape Town.
‘According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage,’ said the publication, adding that those who may have felt it would have likely experienced a few weak tremors.
