In April 2022, the policemen, who were linked to the Kleivlei and Mfuleni SAPS in Cape Town, were pursuing a stolen vehicle when, during the chase, they fatally wounded two civilians while responding to gunfire from the occupants of the stolen vehicle.
IOL reports that postmortem results indicated that both deceased succumbed to gunshot wounds. Lizzy Suping, spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, says both persons were declared dead on the scene.
The policemen were arrested on Thursday and are being held at the Athlone SAPS holding cells. They were due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
