The City has taken swift action to protect the surrounding area by installing barricades and flow containment measures. Three 6-inch pumps are working around the clock, with plans to add at least two more to maintain normal conditions.
The repair operation is complex due to the size, depth and location of the collapse, and workers are taking particular care to avoid affecting nearby services.
The Reticulation line department staff are closely monitoring the situation and working with the contractor to minimise the incident’s impact.
To reduce traffic disruption, the workers have added additional detours and lane closure signage, and traffic officials are assisting with peak-hour traffic flow.
The following intersections are covered during the morning and afternoon peak by Traffic Services:
- Joe Marks & Prince George Drive – 3 members
- Joe Marks & Peter Charles – 2 members
- Peter Charles & Retreat Road – 2 members
- Prince George Drive at Grindal Avenue – traffic services are monitoring taxis that are driving facing oncoming traffic – 2 members
- Retreat Road intersection – Prince George Drive – 2 members
Residents in the surrounding area who are experiencing sewer overflows as a result of this collapsed bulk sewer are advised to contact the City on 0860 10 30 89 or SMS 31373 or WhatsApp 060 018 1505 or email [email protected]
