Update:
The fire in Constantia Nek in Cape Point is ‘slowly crawling down’ towards Kirstenbosch, as stated in a Facebook post made by the City of Cape Town.
All agencies, which include the City crews, Table Mountain National Park – SANParks (TMNP), NCC and the Volunteer Wildfire Services are currently in the area to mitigate the potential impact.
Safety measures, such as wetting all the thatched roofs inside the Gardens have been implemented to safeguard against from windblown embers.
The City has released The ‘Eye in the Sky’ photos to provide real-time visuals of the fire scenario and an overall view to the Incident Management Team (IMT).
The aerial firefighting craft are still unable to take off at the time of writing this article, as a result of the persistent windy conditions.
Aerial support against a fire in the area of the Constantia Nek in Cape Point has been grounded due to strong winds and mist.
This is according to Jermaine Carelse, Division Commander at the City of Cape Town, in a Facebook post made by Emile Langenhoven, Ward 62 DA Councillor.

The fire started near Window Buttress earlier this morning at around 1:30am, and was moving towards Kirstenbosch Gardens while being ‘fanned by a strong south-easterly wind’.
City crews were soon dispatched, supported by Table Mountain National Park – SANParks (TMNP), NCC and the Volunteer Wildfire Services, but weather conditions resulted in aerial support being grounded at 8:30am.
The IMT was located to Kirstenbosch for the duration of the ongoing incident.
