The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate wants to inform residents and commuters that the use of the intersection of Andries Pretorius Street and Church Street in Somerset West will be partially closed to traffic from Monday, 22 August until 09 September 2022. Residents can expect traffic to be affected during this time.

Church Street will be closed for the duration of the construction period, therefore, no through traffic will be allowed from Reitz Street via Church Street to Andries Pretorius Street.
The traffic signals will be switched off to allow free flow of traffic through the Church/Andries Pretorius Street intersection to reduce delays at the Andries Pretorius Street and Victoria Street intersection.
According to the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, it is a fairly busy intersection in Somerset West and the City anticipates that there may be congestion. Thus, their appeal to motorists is to please consider using alternative routes if possible, while construction is underway.
“We also encourage residents to factor in travelling time and to anticipate delays,” concluded Quintas.
