Emre Uygen, chairman of the Belville Community Police Forum, said, ‘There could be a potential syndicate targeting the Bellville area with the intent to steal water meters which contain copper . . . both Boston, Oakdale and multiple other areas had thefts of water meters over the past few months.
‘As you may be aware, copper is a highly valuable item, and the theft of water meters could have serious implications for the residents.’
He advises residents to take proactive measures to secure their water meters and prevent further thefts.
‘It is essential that we work together to prevent any thefts and safeguard our infrastructure.’
He encourages residents to report any suspicious activity or individuals lingering around water meters to their neighbourhood watch, local police, or security company without delay.
