The water-scarce Knysna municipality has flushed out the water from its water reservoir in the Khayalethu area after an unknown male’s body was discovered and retrieved on Sunday afternoon, 26 November.

Municipal personnel alerted the police after discovering the body floating in the water, reported Knysna-Plett Herald.
A team of police divers were dispatched to the scene and the body was retrieved shortly after 4pm.
An investigation has since been opened.

‘Circumstances surrounding [the man’s] death are being investigated. An autopsy to determine the cause of death will be conducted during the week,’ the publication quoted Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Christoper Spies as saying.
The municipality confirmed on Facebook that it was flushing the water to ensure the quality and safety of the water supply. It said the cleansing process is underway and is expected to take several days.
The Khayalethu water reservoir supplies drinking water to the eDameni, Dam-Se-Bos, Khayalethu, Nekkies, Oupad, Hlalani, Kalkol, 7deLaan and surrounding areas.
The municipality added that several water tankers have been deployed to ensure consistent water supply during this period.
