Western Cape police arrested 22 foreign nationals in Philippi on Wednesday, following a compliance check at spaza shops in Acasia Park.

According to police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana, the ‘integrated joint operation’ conducted by the provincial Operational Command Centre, Philippi East SAPS, metro police, law enforcement and the Department of Home Affairs followed up on the status of undocumented persons and conducted inspections for any contraband, stolen property, drugs and illegal firearms.
A total of 32 foreign nationals were taken in for verification under the Immigration and Movement of Persons Act by members of the Department of Home Affairs.
Twenty-one men and one woman aged between 26 and 47 were arrested on charges related to the contravention of the Immigration Act Sec 49(1)(b) of Act 13 of 2002.
One man was arrested for possession of presumed stolen property (17 cellphones).
