Online searches for the Stanley Cup, an American drinking cup and flask product, have skyrocketed in South Africa.

According to the latest Google Trends data, a surge in interest nationwide spiked in December. These are the top five provinces in South Africa that showed the most interest:
- Western Cape
- Gauteng
- Northern Cape
- Eastern Cape
- North West
The product went viral after a social media user posted a video on TikTok showing her burnt car with her Stanley Cup inside, still intact with ice in it.

The Stanley Cup was created in 1913 by William Stanley, who was trying to find a way to keep his coffee hot all day long while he worked.

The thermal flask with a lid that doubles as a cup was a favourite among construction workers, fishermen, loggers and other blue-collar workers before 2019, News24 reports.
Since then, social media trends and influencer endorsements have boosted the brand’s popularity, especially that of the Quenchers, a type of double-walled travel mug.
Last year, women started leading the segment of online searches and purchases after the brand released a more comprehensive range of colours.
