‘Continuing our highly successful partnership with Liberty, we are delighted to bring the incredible Lalah Hathaway to South Africa as part of the Liberty presents ‘An Intimate Evening’ concert series,’ says Tony Feldman of Showtime Management.
‘Lalah Hathaway’s styles mixing R&B, jazz, and pop are uniquely unparalleled, and we are sure fans are in for an evening of musical bliss.’
‘Supporting a show of this magnitude embodies our desire to be “In all of it” with our clients and South Africans. We’re certain those attending with their friends and loved ones will find joy and great pleasure from the concerts,’ says Marees Bostander, head of brand strategy and sponsorships at Liberty.
‘Associating our brand with Lalah Hathaway is both an honour and privilege.’
Lalah’s song ‘Show Me Your Soul,’ from the hit documentary ‘Mr. Soul!,’ was featured on the Oscars 2021 shortlist for Best Original Song and in December 2022, the video dropped for Lalah’s new single ‘This Christmas’ – a duet with her late father, Donny Hathaway, made from a previously unreleased version of his classic Christmas anthem.
Legacy: Lalah Hathaway sings Donny Hathaway, an orchestral tribute to her father’s work, arranged and conducted by Vince Mendoza, debuted in New York in 2019 at the Lincoln Center’s Out of Doors summer concert series with a sold-out show.
It is the first ever show where Lalah has dedicated the entire performance wholly to her father Donny’s repertoire. The Legacy show also toured in Holland in 2021 with the Metropole Orkest and in Australia and New Zealand in October 2022 with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, respectively.
A sought-after collaborator to some of today’s top hitmakers, undeniable music royalty, and vocal abilities matched by few, five-time Grammy award-winning Lalah Hathaway is an artist, singer/songwriter and producer not to be slept on.
A purveyor of many genres while sharing Grammy-win records with the likes of Beyoncé (the only two female artists to have ever won in the Best Traditional R&B Performance category three times), Lalah’s seven solo albums are complemented by an illustrious track record of collaborations.
Her talents have inspired invitations to the stage from music legends such as Prince, Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock, to name a few, and her work even made the Oscars 2021 short list for Best Original Song.
As the daughter of the late, great Donny Hathaway and the product of an incredibly musical family, Chicago-born and raised Lalah Hathaway has the most soulful of music running through her veins. As she continues to forge ahead, her touring schedule now includes, for the first time, South Africa.
