If you were thinking of taking a coastal Sunday drive tomorrow afternoon, you may want to think twice. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow level 2 warning for strong winds over parts of the Western Cape on Saturday, 17 June.
A yellow level 2 warning indicates a high likelihood of minor weather-related impacts.
The warning will come into effect from Sunday, 18 June, at 2pm and will be valid until 2pm on Monday, 19 June.

‘Strong to gale force north-westerly winds travelling at 60 to 80kph gusting up to 100kph can be expected between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas from Sunday afternoon into Monday afternoon,’ says SAWS.
‘Along with these strong winds, high wave heights are also expected which will result in rough and choppy seas.

Potential impacts include:
- Quick successive and steep waves may cause difficulty in navigation at sea.
- Personal watercrafts such as kayaks and small vessels are at risk of capsizing and taking on water.
- Possible short and localised disruptions of ports.
- Short-term disruption to beachfront activities.
- Build-up of sand on coastal roads.
