A 21-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after falling approximately 13 metres from the second ladder on Lion’s Head on Sunday morning.

The hiker was airlifted to hospital following a complex rescue operation around 10am, according to Shawn Herbst, Media Liaison Officer from Netcare 911.

“The patient was found to have sustained serious injuries and required Advanced Life Support intervention to stabilise her,” he said in a statement. The Air Mercy Services helicopter ambulance airlifted the patient off the mountain to an awaiting ambulance who transported her to hospital.”

Residents are urged to be cautious when climbing or hiking in Cape Town especially along mountain trails. Be vigilant and careful as you ascend and ensure you and those with you are safe.
