A traffic light was reportedly stolen in Wynberg before suspects were arrested shortly afterwards, in an unusual incident reported in Cape Town’s southern suburbs, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The incident was shared on social media on Tuesday, 22 September, with safety and news commentator Yusuf Abramjee reporting that the traffic signal, locally known as a robot, had been taken from the area. ‘Robot stolen. Suspects were arrested a short while later,’ Abramjee said in the post.

The brief report has drawn attention because traffic signals are essential pieces of road infrastructure at busy intersections, helping manage the steady flow of vehicles and pedestrians through commercial and residential areas.

Wynberg is one of Cape Town’s established southern suburbs, with busy roads connecting surrounding areas including Claremont, Kenilworth and Plumstead.

A separate traffic update circulating online also reported the Wynberg incident and confirmed that arrests followed shortly afterwards.

Details surrounding the theft remain limited, including the exact intersection involved, how the robot was removed and what charges the arrested suspects may face.

Any further information from SAPS or the City of Cape Town could clarify the circumstances and whether the signal has since been restored.
