‘The south Atlantic High Pressure system will result in very rough seas with wave heights of 4.0 to 5.5 metres touching 5.5 metres from Monday afternoon, subsiding Tuesday morning’ the weather service warned.
SAWS added that near gale to gale force southerly to south-easterly winds of 60 to 74kph are expected alongside these conditions throughout the period.
‘The combination of waves and strong winds may lead to choppy sea conditions.’
The weather warning is valid from 5pm Monday, 22 January, until midnight on Tuesday, 23 January.
The potential weather impacts of the wind and waves include:
- Challenges in sea navigation for small vessels and personal watercraft
- Small watercraft, such as kayaks, could be in danger of flooding or capsizing in these areas
- Temporary disruptions to beachfront activities, small harbours and ports for a short period
