The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has expanded its Yellow level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms to now include Cape Town.

This alert covers severe thunderstorms carrying the risk of flooding and substantial small hail. Anticipated to occur early in the morning, these weather conditions are expected over the Cape Winelands, Overberg and City of Cape Town district municipalities, as well as Saldanha Bay and Swartland municipalities in the Western Cape.

Additionally, SAWS predicts a moderate UV Index for the province, coupled with warm weather in the north-western areas. The rest of the region can expect cloudy and cool conditions, with isolated to scattered showers in the southwest and central areas.
Widespread showers are anticipated along the south coast, gradually clearing from the west in the afternoon.
Coastal winds are forecasted to be moderate to fresh south-westerly along the southwest and south coast, reaching strong levels in the morning. They will then become moderate southerly to south-westerly winds and turn into fresh south-easterly winds later in the afternoon.
