Despite battling lung cancer, beloved South African radio personality, Mark Pilgrim has always kept a smile on his face.
The seasoned broadcaster broke the news to his followers last year that after 33 years of his cancer being in remission, he had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.
Since then, he has bravely documented his journey on social media to raise awareness while keeping a positive attitude.
On New Year’s Eve, after spending 64 days in hospital following seven procedures and losing almost 15kgs, the radio DJ proposed to his partner, Adrienne Watkins at their home.
In a recent post, the radio veteran gives his followers and fans a glimpse into the unpleasant side of his battle that we seldomly become privy to.
“Just to keep it real. I smile a lot in pics, but there’s also moments after heavy coughing or vomiting that I’m exhausted and need a moment to catch my breath. It’s about acknowledging those moments… and the standing up again,” reads the caption.
Last week, in two separate posts, he revealed that he received immunotherapy treatment and blood.
Take a look:
While the comments section has been flooded with followers and fans expressing their love, admiration and support for his turbulent journey, one particular comment caught some controversial attention:
“I don’t see the point. You ain’t gonna beat it. I’m not one of these people who keep on telling you you can beat it. Tell them to give you morphine and gently leave this mortal plane. We will remember your smile for sure. What you are going through is abuse. It may be paying off karma, who knows,” said the comment.
In response to the comment, one Twitter user felt someone should sit down and have a chat with Megan about her ability to “read the room”.

Many agreed that Megan’s comment may come across as insensitive and/or triggering with others stating simply that she should rather have not commented at all.
Another commenter asked if perhaps Megan might become the new Karen, who knows?
