We are currently experiencing the peak of the wildfire season in the Western Cape, which generally starts around November and ends in May.
Fire and rescue services respond to more than 15,000 fires during the hot and dry summer season.

Aerial firefighting forms a crucial part of the fire and rescue service in putting out wildfires, especially in areas and heights that are too dangerous for firefighters to reach head-on.
The UH-1H (Huey) Helicopter is used for fast attacks on wildfires in the Western Cape. With a 1,000-litre capacity, it efficiently transports water to the fire line. The helicopter has undergone modifications to reinforce its strength and enhance safety, making it well-suited for the demanding task of repetitive lifting.
