When it comes to performance, luxury and style, there are few competitors for BMW’s impressive range of vehicles.
However, with a price tag that is out of the reach of many, getting behind the wheel of one of these impressive cars is often a costly exercise.
Fortunately, it is possible to drive off into the sunset in a good-quality, pre-loved BMW at a reasonable price.
Here are just five examples of BMWs that are on sale now for under R100k:
2010 BMW 3 Series 320i Luxury Line
The BMW 3 Series is a great car, with its luxurious and sporty looks coming in various body styles and offering arguably the best driving dynamics in its segment and price point.
The 320i’s major components, like the engine, transmission and rear axle are sound and rarely give trouble.
The Luxury Line upgrades include the wheels, steering wheel and interior trim. BMW adds one final “x” to the collection with the xLine, which is available on select X Models. Upgrades include wheels, roof rails and steering wheel.

2004 BMW X5 xDrive30d
Perfect for wet conditions, the BMW X5 xDrive30d’s four-wheel drive system essentially doubles the amount of grip the car has, allowing you to keep moving on slippery roads that would leave a rear-wheel-drive BMW floundering.
The traction and grip of the car are enhanced as it has more contact patches touching the road that offer power and stability.

2005 BMW 1 Series 120i 5-Door Auto
The 1 Series itself was among the more dependable family cars in petrol form, placing second behind the Ford Focus (8th) and Mercedes A-Class (11th).
The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, 16-valve 118i and 120i models of the series are available.
Most customer surveys place these cars in the middle of the pack.
They do not have a reputation for being unreliable, but that does not guarantee they will not encounter problems. The model and year of the car you have your eye on will also affect its dependability.

2008 BMW 320i
From September 2008 to January 2012, the BMW 320i sedan was manufactured. It has a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 170 horsepower at 6700 revolutions per minute and 210 Newton metres of torque at 4250 revolutions per minute.
This vehicle has been extremely reliable, with only two minor issues having developed in over 200 000km. Excellent handling, very comfortable, and good fuel economy. The all-wheel-drive (xDrive) system is excellent.

2013 BMW 1 Series 118i 5-Door M Sport
The most appealing model of the 1 Series lineup is the base 118i petrol because of its alluring price and 1.5-litre turbocharged engine’s satisfying punch. The M Sport trim is advised primarily due to its stiffer suspension, which enhances handling without causing discomfort during the ride.
The 118i can cover 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds, the 128ti does it in 6.3 seconds, and the M135i xDrive completes the sprint in 4.8 seconds.
The basic 118i petrol will be enough for most people, as it combines low economy with low CO2 emissions.
