A couple in Canada were fined for breaking COVID-19 curfew rules after the woman was found “walking” her husband on a leash.

Quebec province has recently instated a nightly curfew between 8pm and 5am. However, residents may be outside during those hours if they are walking their dog within a half-mile radius from their home.

The woman and her husband were spotted by police at around 9pm on Saturday evening [January 9]. She told police she was simply taking her dog for a walk near her home in Sherbrooke, reports BBC.

“One of them had the other on a leash, and she said she was taking her dog, pointing to her partner, out on a walk, as allowed under the exceptions provided by Quebec’s premier under its curfew law,” police spokeswoman Isabelle Gendron said.

Gendron adds that the couple were not cooperative with police and said the fine would not stop them from breaking the rules in future. They were each fined CA$1,546 (R18 522).

Within the first weekend of nightly curfews, Quebec police issued 750 fines for violations.
