It’s local; it’s ludicrously lekker! The Cape Town Carnival will be back on 16 March 2024; lifting spirits with a colourful celebration of everything that makes South Africa unique.

The carnival celebration returns to Green Point’s Fanwalk for the afternoon and night on Saturday, March 16, bringing together thousands of participants and spectators for the annual extravaganza that is a highlight on the country’s social calendar.
Community and diversity are at the heart of the Cape Town Carnival, which draws together a wide range of participating groups that reflect the many facets of the Mother City. The 2024 event will feature 44 groups – with a total of more than 1 400 performers – ranging from marching bands to dance crews and everything in between.
The themes of community and diversity are also reflected in the audience, with spectators coming from all walks of life to enjoy the festivities in the heart of Cape Town.

‘The Cape Town Carnival provides a spectacular platform for our local cultural offerings, giving the performers the opportunity to develop their skills over many months and then showcase them for an enthusiastic and appreciative audience,’ says Cape Town Carnival Board Chair Professor Rachel Jafta.
To give a behind-the-scenes look at the work that goes into the creative process, Cape Town Carnival is running a social media campaign called #followyourheART that focuses on 20 of the participating community groups. The campaign highlights their passion and dedication and illustrates what a life-changing experience it can be to participate in the event.
