The municipality of Citrusdal in the Western Cape is preparing for additional rainfall that is expected in the area starting Tuesday. Recent floods have had a significant impact on the area, isolating the town by washing away the main access road, N7.
While repairs have been made to the major roads and some services have been restored, challenges still remain.

According to EWN, Gerrit Matthyse, the municipal manager, expressed concerns about the upcoming rainfall. The weather forecast predicts a 70% to 80% chance of rain on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, raising the possibility of further flooding.
While hoping for the best, preparations are underway to tackle any potential flooding due to the consistent and persistent rain over the next three days.

‘80% to 70% rain predictions are for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, so we are already getting ready for the most possible flooding again. We pray for no floods, but based on the consistent rain for three days and the persistent rain for three days, we are getting ready,’ said Matthyse.
In addition to the flooding issues, Citrusdal is currently experiencing a water shortage caused by problems with the boreholes. However, the municipality has taken action by dispatching water tankers to supply water to the affected communities.
Despite these challenges, efforts are being made to mitigate the impact of the floods and provide essential services to the residents.
