Three-time GRAMMY Award winner Wouter Kellerman will bring his blend of classical, contemporary and South African music to Cape Town on 30 October, when Classics on Turf returns for its second edition in partnership with Telkom, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The event will combine a day of golf at Steenberg Golf Club with an evening concert at the Norval Foundation, where Kellerman will perform alongside the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time as part of the series. The concert will also mark a debut for conductor Maestro Kutlwano Masote, who will lead the orchestra for the first time.
From classical masterpieces to South African favourites
Audiences can expect a programme that moves between musical traditions, with works by composers Rossini and Chopin alongside a European standard, South African classics and New Age music. The mix reflects Kellerman’s career, which has taken him from classical and world music to international collaborations and performances on major stages.
The flautist, composer and producer has won three GRAMMY Awards in 2014, 2021 and 2025, as well as ten South African Music Awards. In 2026, he received the Presidential Order of Ikhamanga in Gold for his contribution to the arts and his international cultural impact.
His collaborations include acclaimed musicians Ricky Kej and Angélique Kidjo, as well as the Ndlovu Youth Choir. He also performed at Carnegie Hall and took part in the opening ceremony of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which was broadcast to an estimated 700 million viewers worldwide.
Vincent Zwelibanzi Mntambo, patron of Classics on Turf, said Kellerman’s ability to connect different musical traditions made him a fitting choice for the event.
‘He is proudly South African, internationally respected and able to connect different musical traditions and audiences through his work.’

The collaboration with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra adds a new dimension to the event’s second Cape Town season, bringing a locally based orchestral ensemble together with an internationally recognised South African musician.
For Masote, the concert will be particularly meaningful. He and Kellerman have been friends for 15 years, but this will be their first time sharing a stage.
Masote described Kellerman’s music as rooted in South Africa while reaching beyond borders and traditional genre boundaries. The programme, he said, would give audiences the chance to experience classical compositions, familiar South African songs and New Age music in one concert.
More than an evening of music
Telkom, which is partnering with Classics on Turf for the second consecutive year, says the event is intended to bring music, sport, culture and hospitality together in a single experience. The day-to-evening format takes guests from the golf course at Steenberg to the Norval Foundation, offering a different setting for audiences to experience live orchestral music.
Gugu Mthembu, Telkom’s chief marketing officer, said the partnership celebrates South African talent while creating opportunities for audiences to connect through culture.
With Kellerman’s international career, the Philharmonic Orchestra’s involvement and Masote’s first performance with both, the 30 October event will bring several musical milestones together in Cape Town.
For local audiences, it also offers an opportunity to hear an award-winning South African artist in a programme that moves between international classics and music closer to home.
