On Sunday, the City of Cape Town’s Deputy Mayor Eddie Andrews joined 6 000 people of all ages in the Peninsula School Feeding Association’s (PSFA) 55th Blisters for Bread walk in Green Point.
The 5km and 10km walks along the Sea Point Promenade raised R581 877 from entry fees and donations that were made in support of the event.

The money generated on the day will enable PSFA to feed 939 schoolchildren breakfasts and lunches for an entire year.
‘It was great taking part in a walk of this nature, one that you know benefits so many people,’ said Andrews. ‘The Peninsula School Feeding Association serves 27 000 meals per day and they are present in over 170 organisations in the Western Cape.’
‘Most importantly, each R100 Blisters for Bread Walk entry fee is able to feed 33 children. The City looks forward to participating in next year’s Blisters for Bread, which will take place on Sunday, 25 August 2024.’
‘I request residents to also diarise this date and join us,’ he added.
The Premier of the Western Cape, Alan Winde, was also in attendance, accompanied by the MEC of Education David Maynier and MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport Anroux Marais.
They were joined by the CEO of The Oceana Group, Neville Brink; the managing director of Lucky Star, Lourens de Waal; and the chairman of PSFA, Brian Benatar.
After the walk, participants were treated to a live concert featuring South African singers Sayde Fillis, Krista Jonas, Nur Abrahams and Heart FM presenter Jeremy Harris.
‘PSFA’s Blisters for Bread Charity Family Fun Walk is a shining example of the positive change that can be brought about when a community comes together for a common cause. By raising funds to feed impoverished schoolchildren, this event will not only fill hungry tummies but also nurture hope, unity, and the belief in the power of collective efforts to transform lives,’ said Petrina Pakoe, Director of PSFA.
