As per the Overstrand Municipality, a Code Red has been declared in the area due to wildfires in the Hangklip area. Other areas are to be advised when evacuation will be mandatory.
The designated emergency evacuation centre is the Kleinmond Town Hall.
Earlier today, the Incident Management Team (IMT) determined that the fire would spread along Brodie Link into Pringle Bay. Aerial resources and ground crews are actively conducting fire suppression activities in the mountain range, while firefighters have been deployed along the foot of the mountain.
The municipality also requests that ‘disaster tourists’ should refrain from taking photographs and exploring the area, especially where firefighting vehicles are working and moving.
CapeNature has also advised hikers not to hike the Brodie Link or Hangklip trails or any other trails in the Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay areas.
In addition, members of the Kogelberg Villages Environmental Trustees are monitoring the baboon troops in the area.
