This week’s inclement weather has resulted in a high volume of electricity requests to the City of Cape Town.
This comes as residents continue to experience cold, wet and windy conditions, caused by a cold front passing over the province, which has had a significant impact on electricity supplies.

‘Teams are attending to a number of weather and loadshedding related outages in the metro as a matter of urgency,’ the City said in a statement.
‘Eskom’s loadshedding has also contributed to the number of service requests due to nuisance tripping, among others, when the lights are switched back on. The City encourages residents to use the correct service channels to report outages via SMS and email,’ it said.
Residents have been reminded to only use one reporting channel and not log multiple requests, as duplication cause additional delays.
The City added that resources had also been dedicated to trim trees and vegetation on its property to reduce the risk of damage and power outages caused by trees encroaching onto power lines and infrastructure.
‘Stormy weather usually contributes to an increase in power outages, especially where tree branches grow over and into overhead power lines. Residents should contact professionals for assistance where the work is too dangerous or difficult to perform,’ added the City.
Residents concerned that there is a risk of trees on City property encroaching on City overhead power lines are urged to report these cases to the City’s Fault Reporting Centre at 0860 103 089 or [email protected].
The province experienced a fierce storm accompanied by strong winds on Friday evening, leading to a series of incidents across the province.
A tree fell across Boyes Drive in Muizenberg, obstructing the road near the waterfall.
In another incident, a fallen tree blocked one lane at the corner of Kendal and Durban Road in Durbanville. Drivers are advised to navigate the area carefully to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The storm’s impact also resulted in a power pole being blown askew causing power outages in Dennelaan, Eikelaan and Jakarandalaan. Repair work is being carried out by the local Breede Valley Municipality. As a result, these areas in Worcester are currently experiencing a power outage until the repairs are completed.
