An unexpected power outage has affected several areas in Overstrand, including Hermanus, Stanford and Gansbaai. The incident occurred when Eskom’s infrastructure at the Mountain Drive substation in Hermanus was damaged after the electricity was restored following loadshedding earlier today.
Eskom personnel are currently on-site at the substation to assess the extent of the damage and initiate the necessary repairs.
Engineers are working diligently to determine if some areas can be switched back on while repairs are underway. Unfortunately, at this time, no estimated time for full restoration of power is available.
In an effort to expedite the restoration process, Eskom has requested that residents cooperate by switching off geysers and all appliances like heaters. This will help reduce the load on the system and enable Eskom to bypass the damaged transformer.
The Overstrand Municipality, led by Executive Mayor Dr. Annelie Rabie, is actively engaged in resolving the power outage situation.
The Overstrand community is urged to remain patient and understand that efforts are underway to restore electricity as soon as possible. The municipality appreciates the cooperation of residents in reducing the load on the system, which will contribute to the swift resolution of the power outage.
As more information becomes available, the public will be kept informed of any developments. It is advised to stay tuned to official communications channels from the Overstrand Municipality for the latest updates on the power outage.
