Police in Cape Town has urged anyone with any information regarding a fatal shooting incident that took place at the Athlone Water Treatment Centre, on Monday, 28 March to come forward.
According to police spokesperson Captain Frederick Van Wyk, SAPS are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident, where a 49-year-old woman was shot and fatally wounded, while a 39-year-old woman was shot in the left shoulder.
Van Wyk said the victims were taken to a nearby medical facility for medical treatment. “A murder and three attempted murder cases are under investigation,” he said.
“The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction and is yet to be arrested. Anyone with any information about this fatal shooting incident is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” Van Wyk said.
Meanwhile, the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has now temporarily closed Athlone Water Treatment Centre following the incident.
According to the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, more information will be communicated as information comes to light. The City will also assist SAPS with the investigation as needed during this time.
