The dedicated Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services of Mossel Bay are working tirelessly to keep a watchful eye on the area’s persistent flooding, a result of the ongoing rainfall in the municipal catchment area.
As the rains continue, low-lying areas and riverbanks are experiencing floods, prompting the closure of several roads between Klein Brak and Great Brak River. To ensure the safety of both motorists and pedestrians, authorities advise against venturing into these waterlogged areas.
The emergency response teams, including Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services, have been actively involved in assisting the residents of Pine Creek, Great Brak River, to reach safety amid the challenges posed by the flooding.
Weather forecasts suggest that the intensity of the rain is expected to subside. However, residents are cautioned that the rainwater that has accumulated in the catchment area may continue to flow into lower-lying regions, exacerbating the ongoing flooding.
For those in these vulnerable areas, vigilance concerning water levels is paramount. Evacuation to higher ground is strongly recommended if the situation necessitates it.

Affected road closures:
- Zorgfontein Road, Klein Brak River
- Geelbeksvlei Road, Brandwag
- Haelkraal Road, Ruiterbos
- Access road to Leeukloof
Kaaiman’s Pass is currently operating under a stop-and-go system due to a mudslide that occurred. While one lane is open, traffic is moving slowly and all motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution while navigating this area.
Unfortunately, the Saasveld Road remains closed due to fallen trees, making it inaccessible. SANRAL is actively addressing this issue.
The heavy rains are significantly affecting the road network throughout George and its neighbouring regions. As such, motorists are strongly advised to limit their travel to essential journeys only and to approach the roads with great care.
It is vital not to attempt crossing low-lying bridges, flooded roads or bridges. Instead, consider using alternative routes whenever possible.
In particular, the Tradouw Pass has been closed due to a mudslide, contributing to the series of road-related challenges presented by the relentless rainfall.
As Mossel Bay grapples with these meteorological challenges, the dedication and vigilance of its emergency response teams are key to maintaining safety and protecting the community from potential risks associated with the flooding.
