Colonel Andrè Traut, spokesperson for the Western Cape police, stated that unidentified assailants attempted to murder four additional individuals. Traut mentioned that the deceased were in their twenties, while the individuals targeted for attempted murder ranged from 27 to 35 years old.
‘On Sunday, 5 May at around 6:20pm unknown gunmen opened fire at the victims at their residence in Mazizini in Browns Farm, Nyanga, killing three on the scene, and wounding five. The injured victims were admitted to hospital where one succumbed to death,’ Traut said.
The case files for the murder and attempted murder incidents were transferred to detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit for investigation. Traut noted that the investigative team is actively following various leads to apprehend the perpetrators and seeks community support to accelerate progress in the investigation.
‘The motive for the incident is yet to be determined,’ Traut said.
Authorities urged anyone with information regarding the shooting incident to come forward anonymously through Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or via the mobile application MySAPS.
In a separate mass shooting incident last week in Nyanga, four individuals were fatally shot, with a fifth victim hospitalised for medical care. Among the victims were three men and one woman, all pronounced dead at the scene. The tragedy unfolded in the Lloyd informal settlement along Govan Mbeki Road.
