Four hikers have been rescued from a ledge in Platteklip Gorge on Table Mountain on Thursday, September 24. The rescue operation was a success and the hikers were airlifted to safety.

John Marais, a spokesperson for Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) said to SABC News Western Cape that an alert was raised and rescuers were deployed at Lower Tafelberg Road.

Following an assessment of the situation, it was decided that conditions were safe to airlift the hikers. Approval was given to use a helicopter from the Air Mercy Services.

A technical rescuer and paramedic flew from Lower Tafelberg Road to the rescue site. The hikers were safely removed and dropped off on the road below Platteklip Gorge. Each of the hikers were safe and not injured.
