The disappearance of Alistair Stanbull from the City’s Human Settlements Department has sparked speculation as the search for the Steenberg resident continues along the hiking trails of Constantia Nek.
Stanbull’s family gathered on Sunday near the location where his car was discovered the previous week.
More than 15 people stood in a circle and discussed how to distribute missing person posters.
His wife, Shireen Stanbull, informed her worried family members of where to go and how to hang the A4-sized posters. She told the Cape Argus that her husband’s case had worn her down.

According to police spokesperson Wesley Twigg, Stanbull was last seen on Monday, and his Renault Kwid was discovered parked at Silvermine on Tuesday.
‘On Monday, Alistair told his wife that he was going for a hike and left his premises in Steenberg and never returned. His vehicle was found on Ou Kaapse Weg on Tuesday morning. At the time of his disappearance he was wearing a grey long-sleeve T-shirt and khaki hiking pants.’
Stanbull was arrested alongside a colleague in November 2022 and later released on R10 000 bail.

At the time, the State claimed that the employees of a company that contracted with the City, as well as the directors, provided false invoices to the City and misrepresented some of the work they charged for as completed.
Stanbull allegedly allowed the invoices to be approved despite knowing the work was not completed.
When granting them bail, magistrate Ronel Oliver stated that she did not consider the accused to be a flight risk or that they were likely to commit a crime while on bail.
It is understood that some of the charges against the accused have since been dropped, and the case has been transferred to the Bellville Commercial Crimes Unit.
