The Western Cape Department of Mobility welcomed the seizure of two tonnes of dagga and counterfeit clothing in Laingsburg on Tuesday by Provincial Traffic Services officers.

Mobility MEC Ricardo Mackenzie stated that officers intercepted a heavy vehicle transporting 42 bags of compressed dagga weighing two tonnes.
He estimated the value of the dagga at R4 million.
‘Two arrests were made in relation to this bust, for the possession of an illegal substance and dealing in counterfeit goods.’

Between February 12 and February 18, provincial traffic officers conducted 248 integrated roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints, and speed control operations.
They also stopped and inspected 27 699 vehicles throughout the province.
A total of 8 180 fines were issued for various traffic violations, 21 vehicles were impounded, and 209 were declared unroadworthy.
Officers also recorded 267 speeding violations, including one driver who went 169kph in a 120kph zone.
In total, 96 suspects were arrested by provincial traffic officers.
Among the suspects arrested, 63 were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, eight with possessing fraudulent documentation, and nine with being undocumented.
The Provincial Traffic Services also reported 28 crashes during this time period, with 31 people killed, including 16 pedestrians, nine passengers and five drivers.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, SAPS members attached to Nyanga Operation Restore arrested a 40-year-old man for dealing in drugs on Monday.
The members received a tip-off about drugs being sold at a premises in Bristol informal settlement. They acted on the information received and headed to the identified address, where they conducted a thorough search and confiscated drugs and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The confiscation of the drugs led to the arrest of a suspect who was found at the premises.
