Alderman JP Smith, the City’s Mayco member for safety and security, says officers conducting a joint operation with the South African Police Service (SAPS) received a tip about firearms being kept in a house at around 7pm.
‘Permission was granted to conduct a search, and K9 Kiara helped identify a bag containing a Glock 9mm pistol, 2 magazines loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, and what appeared to be a hand grenade.’
A 45-year-old person was arrested and detained at Manenberg SAPS.
Smith adds that officers later discovered that the firearm was reported as stolen in another province.
