Western Cape has reached another milestone after it reported that more than 50% of adults in the Western Cape have been vaccinated as of Tuesday, December 7.
This comes after residents have been making use of the province’s Vooma vaccination drives that will continue throughout the province from Monday, December 6 until Friday the 10th.
This vaccination drive consists of pop-up vaccine sites where residents can walk into their local shopping centres, clinics, and town halls during the week and get their jabs. Officials at these sites will also be able to assist in registering on the online system to help ease the process.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) spokesperson for health in the Western Cape, Wendy Kaizer-Philander have urged residents to partner with them and join the programme this week, so that everyone can move closer to Population Effective Protection.
“At the Provincial Parliament, the Standing Committee of Health has unanimously resolved to conduct public hearings across the Western Cape to address vaccine hesitancy early next year. This would be in an effort to identify the gaps in the programme and help reach at least 75% of the population,” Kaizer-Philander explained.
She said the Western Cape Government shared updates early this week on where and when vaccines will be available over the upcoming weekend to ensure that residents have ample time to plan ahead and get their jabs ahead of the full swing of the festive season.
” I have engaged with the Minster and was advised that both Pfizer and J&J shots will be available for residents’ convenience.
We are currently within the onset of the 4th wave of infections, and these vaccines have proven to remain our best tool to save lives and protect our healthcare system,” Kaizer-Philander said.
She went on to say that residents can mitigate the impact of this wave of infections by getting vaccinated and continuing with existing pharmaceutical interventions, such as social distancing, wearing a mask and good hygiene practices.
Meanwhile, players and staff of the DHL Stormers got vaccinated on Wednesday. Western Cape Premier Alan Winde congratulated the team and indicated that residents who have not yet had a chance to get vaccinated, should go for it as it takes less than 30 min.
