The Cape of Good Hope SPCA has been without water since 5pm yesterday and is appealing to members of the public to assist with water donations for its animals on site.
The water shortage follows a water leak that occurred in Blackbird Avenue in Parkwood on Sunday where an air valve was vandalised, resulting in a widespread water supply disruption in the Southern Suburbs.

‘We have 500 animals, including dogs, cats, horses and farm animals on site that need water and we would also like to help the communities where animals are left without water today,’ said the SPCA, adding that it has had to invest in portable water containers and other unexpected expenses to manage the water crisis.
‘Water and donations will not only help us to continue our vital work in Grassy Park but will also go towards helping in the communities where animals are without water,’ urged the animal organisation.
Those that would like to assist can do so by dropping off water at the animal shelter in 1st Avenue & First Road, Grassy Park or donating online here.

While the City of Cape Town has been on site working to repair the vandalised valve, no clear timeframe could be provided due to the extensive damage. MMC for Water and Sanitation Dr Zahid Badroodien said the department is working towards restoring water supply by Tuesday morning.
Water tankers are expected to be set up to accommodate the affected areas.
