The search continues for the 23-year-old Gauteng man who went missing at Camps Bay Beach on Thursday, September 9. According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), the City of Cape Town’s (COCT) water rescue network was activated after 1pm on Thursday, following eyewitness reports of a drowning in progress between Camps Bay Beach and Glen Beach.
NSRI Bakoven station commander, Luke van Riet said that NSRI Bakoven and NSRI Table Bay rescue swimmers, COCT Law Enforcement, SAPS, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, WC Government Health EMS, Netcare 911 ambulance services and Life Healthcare Response paramedics all responded to the scene and even conducted shoreline searches.
“NSRI’s Bakoven sea rescue craft, Gemini Legend and the EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter also conducted a sea and air search after an unidentified surfer had attempted to reach the casualty before he disappeared underwater,” Van Riet said.
He added that rescue swimmers were also deployed into the water and performed free dive search efforts. However, police spokesperson, Andrè Traut confirmed that the body of the man is yet to be found, IOL mentions.
