A suspect has been arrested in connection to the murder of former Americans gang leader Mogamat Sadeka Madatt, and will participate in an identity parade, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
As reported by News24, this information came to light on Friday in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court, after Abubakar Coetzee (38) was arrested on Wednesday.

Coetzee’s case has been postponed to 16 April, according to Eric Ntabazalila, Western Cape NPA spokesperson, and also currently faces a murder charge, according to Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson.
Madatt, a convicted criminal, moved into the Kapteinsklip informal settlement in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain, after he served a 10-year jail sentence, with his sentence ending in 2015. He was convicted of dealing in cocaine and uncut diamonds.
After his death, residents feared that a gang war could break out between the Fancy Boys and Americans gangs. Locals have also claimed that Coetzee is a member of the Fancy Boys gang.
Madatt was shot and killed in a shooting on Monday in Mitchells Plain, and was buried in Manenberg on Wednesday afternoon in ‘accordance with Muslim rites’.
