De Grendel Wine Estate and Restaurant
De Grendel Wine Estate and Restaurant holds the accolade of the World Wide Fund (WWF) Conservation champion, because of its ‘various sustainable initiatives’.
A solar photovoltaic (PV) plant that was ‘commissioned at the end of 2015‘ sits on the outskirts of the De Grendel farm, along with ‘the rooftop panels on the farm’s dairy shed,’ which can generate 210 megawatt peak (MWp).
The farm also uses a ‘reverse osmosis plant’ for water purification that pumps water from a borehole and ‘removes impurities and contaminants’ to provide fresh water.
In regards to its winemaking production, De Grendel ‘ensures that it recycles all glass wine bottles’, and encourages a culture of recycling across the various departments of the farm.
