According to Community Medics, one person was transported to hospital after a taxi crashed into a wall on Blaauwberg Road in Table View, while the remaining passengers escaped without injuries.
In an update shared on social media, Community Medics said the incident could have had more serious consequences. Witnesses travelling in the taxi reportedly suggested that the brakes may have failed, although this has not been confirmed.
The collision also caused structural damage to the property, prompting the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service to await an assessment by the City’s structural engineer.
In the comments beneath the Community Medics update, Natalie Asquith said the structural engineer arrived at 22:00 and that the taxi had been towed away.
She added that the garage had been taped off and the vehicle parked outside, noting that the damage would require the garage to be rebuilt.
The cause of the collision remains unconfirmed and further details about the injured patient have not been provided.
Motorists are reminded to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and to have any suspected brake problems checked by a qualified mechanic.
