On Thursday, Cape Town saw the rise of the taxis. However, what was initially promised to be a peaceful protest saw a day of chaos on The Mother City’s roads.

The City of Cape Town says that the cost of the damage is around R4 million at this stage.
According to Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, this is only based on the damages the City is aware of and confirmed by property owners as Times Live confers.
Constituting the bulk cost, was the Golden Arrow bus Service, whose damage is estimated at R3.5 million. For reference, multiple Golden Arrow busses were torched during the strike.
Private vehicles were estimated at R380 000 while the City of Cape Town sustained R275 000 in damages reports News24.
