Cape Town motorists have been advised to be on the lookout after about 20 taxis blocked off a section of the Jakes Gerwel Drive on Tuesday, 15 February.
The Jakes Gerwel Drive formerly known as Vanguard Drive is an essential route from Mitchells Plain, which thousands of people use on a daily basis to travel to their various destinations.
According to the City of Cape Town’s (COCT) Traffic Services spokesperson Kevin Jacobs, the taxis were parked near the Heideveld Road intersection.

Jacobs further mentioned that no arrests have been made yet, however, officials are now investigating the reason behind the blockade.
Meanwhile, the COCT and the company responsible for the N2 Express bus service are preparing the fleet that will resume operations between Mitchells Plain, Khayelitsha and the Cape Town CBD on Saturday, 18 February.
The preparations come after a new operating contract was signed with the N2 Company, equally owned by the Congress of Democratic Taxi Association. The N2 Express service, which provided affordable, regular, and scheduled public transport between the three areas was suspended at the end of May 2019.
More than 6 000 commuters from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha will now again benefit once the buses are back on the road.
