Three men have been arrested in separate intelligence-driven operations in Cape Town, with police confiscating an imitation firearm, ammunition and several types of drugs.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the arrests took place in Surrey Estate, Camelot and Mfuleni on Wednesday, 7 October, as members of Operation Prosper conducted searches at identified premises.
SAPS added that the operations formed part of ongoing efforts to remove firearms and drugs from vulnerable communities in the Western Cape.
In Surrey Estate, Manenberg, Operation Prosper members searched a premises after following intelligence.
Police confiscated an imitation firearm and 52 rounds of ammunition during the operation.
A 24-year-old man was arrested and is facing charges related to the illegal possession of ammunition and possession of an imitation firearm.
He is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.
Mandrax found during Camelot search
A separate search was conducted at a premises in Queen Guinevere, Camelot.
Police arrested a 26-year-old man after allegedly finding 50 Mandrax tablets inside the house.
He is facing a charge of possession of drugs and is expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court.
Crystal meth and cocaine seized in Mfuleni
In Shire Street, Mfuleni, Operation Prosper members followed up information about suspected drug activity at a premises.
During the search, police allegedly found 15 small plastic packets containing crystal meth, two-and-a-half Mandrax tablets and 16 plastic packets containing cocaine.
A 45-year-old man was arrested and is facing a charge of possession of drugs.
He is also expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court.
