An inquiry about Zandile Mafe’s understanding of the wrongfulness of his actions will be held after he rejected two reports that determined that he is unfit to stand trials on charges of arson and terrorism.
The reports were conducted by three state-appointed specialists, as well as an independent report that Mafe requested. According to the findings, Mafe did not understand the wrongfulness of his actions and was unfit to stand trial. However, these findings have not been confirmed as a finding by the court yet.

News24 reports that although Mafe has not pleaded, he has claimed that he started the fire during outbursts in court. His lawyer, Luvuyo Godla, says Mafe plans to testify in court during a separate procedure to the trial.
The inquiry will be held on 2 and 3 November, and he remains in custody at Pollsmoor Prison’s hospital wing.
