A special initiative led by Andie Reeves and her Cape Town Craft Club is calling on contributors to help bring smiles to the faces of children in need.
For three consecutive years, this community of creatives has ensured that children in a designated youth care centre receive a special gift for Christmas: a handcrafted toy of their favourite animal.

This year, Andie’s Kind Craft Club, an annual toy drive for disadvantaged children, will be supporting the Durbanville Children’s Home and SA Kinderhuis.
These institutions provide a haven for vulnerable children, offering them a nurturing and safe environment away from their families for various reasons. The Kind Craft Club’s toy drive brings a sense of normalcy and joy during the festive season to the homes’ young residents.
For its 2022 toy drive, the Kind Craft Club’s contributors made toys for the children at Marsh Memorial Homes, a youth care centre for children who have been neglected, abandoned or abused. Marsh Memorial strives to rehabilitate and reunite children with their families or communities.
Each child received a handmade toy of their favourite animal for Christmas.

How to contribute to the 2023 toy drive:
As the festive season approaches, the Cape Town Craft Club is calling on local crafters to lend their skills and hearts to this noble cause. Whether it’s by crocheting, knitting or sewing, every contribution counts in bringing a ray of happiness to a child’s life.
Participants are invited to choose an animal from a list of requested favourites by the children and commit to creating a toy. The process includes signing up, receiving a confirmation with the designated child’s name, crafting the toy and finally delivering it to a designated drop-off point by 14 December.
This ensures that each child has their special gift in time for Christmas.
How it works:
Step 1: Look at the list of requested animals and choose one you’d like to make. You are welcome to make more than one if you have the capacity!
Step 2: Fill out the sign-up form or email [email protected] with your choice.
Step 3: Receive your confirmation email, including your designated child’s name.
Step 4: Make your toy(s)! The Cape Town Craft Club is happy to help you find a pattern. If you need help, just ask.
Step 5: Your finished animal can be dropped off at Fabricate in the Gardens Shopping Centre on 15, 15 or 17 December.
Please ensure you are able to commit to making your toy by 14 December 2023!

Some toy criteria:
Toys must be roughly the size of an A4 piece of paper or be able to fit inside a shoebox. Toys need to be knitted, crocheted or sewn and use child-friendly materials.
We will wrap the toys to ensure uniformity, so you can deliver your toy in a packet/one of those black Woolies bags you have under the sink.
If you are unable to make it to Fabricate for the abovementioned dates, you can contact CCC at capetowncraftclub@gmail.com to make another plan.
