A group of para surfers who excel in their sport have earned a spot to compete in the World Para Surf Championships in Pismo Beach, California this December. Roxy Davis, the founder of the Roxy Davis Foundation, has been selected as a voluntary head coach to lead the team.
The Roxy Davis Foundation has partnered with Surf Emporium to raise funds to get the athletes and support team to the event.
Surf Emporium defines an adaptive surfer as a surfer with a disability, including but not limited to paralysis, cerebral palsy, blindness, amputations and so on. An adaptive surfing clinic allows people with physical and intellectual disabilities to ride ocean waves on a surfboard.
This is the first time that South Africa will be sending a team to the championship. The team consists of nine male and five female athletes, and six support team members will accompany them.
This weekend, when you book a surf lesson or rent equipment from Surf Emporium, it will donate 25% of its sales to support our team!
The World Para Surfing Championship will be held from 4 to 11 December on California’s Prismo Beach.

By assisting the Roxy Davis Foundation in reaching its goal, Rae, Similo, and Nolu, the para surfing team’s newest members, as well as coaches and a physiotherapist, will be able to travel to California.
Each team member is self-funded and has their own fundraising account to cover their specific needs.
